Pound Euro exchange rate: Election optimism sends GBP/EUR to best levels since 2017

The pound spent Wednesday storming higher against the euro thanks to weak German data and election optimism, leaving the pairing trading around a nine-month high of €1.179. The pound rose against the euro despite data showing UK election and Brexit uncertainty caused the UK’s service sector to shrink in November.
